Therapeutic Services for Individuals
‘… words or wool, anyone can master it.
First, the unravelling of elusive,
possibly false strands of memory.
Next, you settle into long days,
Row after row,
Hoping for a garment approximating truth,
Knowing anything re-knitted is always a little uneven,
A compromise at best.
I make no mention of the casting off.’
From Diane Brown’s The Pattern of Memoir in Every Now and Then I Have Another Child, Otago University Press, 2020
“It’s good to talk”
Unpleasant symptoms?
Painful events affecting your life?
Suffering in ways difficult to understand?
Acting in ways contrary to your beliefs?
Having the same unsatisfactory experiences over and over?
To a large extent the work is done by those attending sessions. The starting point is usually an enquiry. Beyond that, one’s own motivation and willingness to engage with the work is fundamental to its development and outcome. What Simona offers is an opportunity to explore and question one’s own life, beliefs and expectations; to express something that might not have been said before and, perhaps, to realise something never realised before. The therapeutic process often leads to new ways of experiencing oneself, others and the world, to increased creativity, more enjoyable experiences and a reduction of suffering. Change often occurs in unpredictable ways and it is impossible to know in advance what may happen.
