Support Groups
Why Support Groups?
Are you facing a challenging experience?
Would you like to speak about it with others, who are going through a similar experience, within a facilitated support group?
Is your support group experiencing difficulties that would benefit from some facilitation?
Are you looking for someone to help you either to set up or facilitate a support group?
All human beings can feel lonely and isolated when facing challenging, frightening, worrying or upsetting circumstances – for example a health condition, the experience of caring for someone, being a younger or older person, belonging to a particular social group and so on. At such times, one might find it helpful to meet and speak with others who are facing a similar experience.
A support group is a weekly, fortnightly or monthly gathering of people with a shared experience. It is an opportunity for you and others to speak and think together about a particular shared experience. Support groups often find external facilitation helpful; and when a group runs into difficulties an experienced facilitator might help it find its way forward again.
